What Size Swim Diaper Does My Baby Need?
Swim Guide · Swim diapers
Choose a swim diaper by your baby’s current weight, not age. Babies of the same age vary, so weight is the more useful starting point. For the Paddle Pals swim diaper, if your child is exactly 24 lb or between sizes, choose the smaller size for a snug fit.
Paddle Pals reusable swim diaper size chart
| Size | Weight | Waist | Thigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6–12 months | Up to 24 lb (11 kg) | 13.4–18.5 in (34–47 cm) | 6.7–10.2 in (17–26 cm) |
| 12–24 months | 24–33 lb (11–15 kg) | 16.5–19.7 in (42–50 cm) | 8.7–12.2 in (22–31 cm) |
How to check the fit
Run a finger around the waist and each leg opening. You are checking for two things:
- No gaps: the openings should sit against the skin all the way around, including at the inner thigh.
- No deep pressure marks: the diaper should be snug without digging in.
Then let your baby crawl, squat and kick. Movement should be unrestricted. If the diaper gaps or slides down, recheck the size and fit before swimming.
Why age is only a guide
Age labels are convenient shorthand, but two babies of the same age can have different measurements. Use current weight first, then compare waist and thigh measurements if your child is close to a boundary.
When to move up a size
- The waist or leg openings leave deep pressure marks.
- The diaper is difficult to pull on.
- Your baby has moved above the listed weight range.
How many swim diapers do you need?
Two can be practical for a weekly class: one to wear and one dry spare. For occasional swims, one reusable may be enough.
Shop the size your baby needs, available in 6–12 and 12–24 month sizes as a single or two-pack.
